There is a Spiritual Battle Going On…

Unless you are watchful, it is easy to overlook the spiritual battle that is going on in the world today. There are many evils that are taking place and we Christians have to stand up and take a stance or otherwise we could become the lukewarm Christians the bible warns us about.

There are a variety of evils that are taking place in this day and age, some small, some enormous. But let’s start with the small.
How often do we bypass the homeless in our streets, not even looking twice on our own apathy? How does that effect our spirituality, our hearts? How does that testify to our faith in what Jesus said in the parable in Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you did for the least of these, you did to me”. Granted, there are obstacles in helping the homeless. What will they spend the money we give them? But what’s stopping you from talking to them, asking them if there is something you could do to help? Even a caring, sympathetic, encouraging word is all they need to hear in this loveless society. I challenge all my Christian friends to stop and show a loving heart to our brothers and sisters in need. Let’s be like Jesus and show compassion and love.
What about selfishness? I can’t even begin to emphasize the pervasiveness of selfishness in our society. If you aren’t fighting to be selfless intentionally, one can easily succumb to the selfishness of our age. The age of instant gratification, of sexual immorality. We want to seek pleasure as if it is our right. We think the universe owes it to us to be blessed with riches and abundance. We don’t realize that our lives don’t even belong to us, they belong to the Almighty Creator of the universe. That’s why all of our lives has to start with a humble presupposition, that we ultimately owe our lives to our Lord, and remember the promise that the humble will be exalted (Matthew 23:12).
And then there is abortion, one of the greatest evils in this era and the ultimate show of selfishness. We are sacrificing our children for the false belief that it is our bodies, our choice. Well, our bodies are not our bodies. They belong to God. We didn’t choose to come to existence but God created us. So too our babies didn’t choose to come into existence but they too were created. Who will stand up for the life of the babies being aborted by the hundreds of thousands? Who will speak up to the evil that is numbing us and creating in us the coldest of hearts? Who will fight for life of the most innocent of humanity???
So I challenge you. Don’t live in the fear of being rejected and persecuted. Even our forefathers fought until death to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Let’s take a stance, and fight it like warriors in a battle.
