Maple Syrup and Walnut Oatmeal Recipe

This delicious oatmeal recipe is my invention, based on the flavours I think work together, and with ingredients I know are healthy and tasty. I have been eating oatmeal for decades, but not the prepackaged and preflavoured kind (gross!).  The store-bought variety is too simple and unidimensional. Besides, I prefer a slightly saltier oatmeal to compensate for less sugar.

I have been making my own oatmeal for a long time, and I have tried many flavours and varieties and have found one that I can’t live without. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!

Maple Syrup and Walnut Oatmeal

This delicious and filling oatmeal recipe is way better than the pre-made variety that is too sweet. If you like less sweet and more salty, you'll love this recipe!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup oatmeal quick oats
  • 2.25 cup water
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 handfuls walnut pieces
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp table cream
  • 1/4 cup berries (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Combine all ingredients except for table cream in a medium pot.
  • Heat medium pot using medium-high heat.
  • Simmer oatmeal for 2 minutes until creamy in texture.
  • Serve oatmeal in a bowl with table cream. Garnish with berries (optional). Enjoy!
